In 2017\, we created the Pierce County Toy and Geek Fest as a fun little show that was true to our toy roots. The event in 2018 expanded to many new avenues\, but we kept with “Toy and Geek Fest” in our name. That name excluded the comics\, video games\, celebrities\, art\, attractions\, and so many other things that were at our event. Needless to say\, “Washington State Toy and Comics and Games and Exhibits and Celebrities and Geek Fest” wasn’t a finalist for the name change. After two months of hashing and rehashing 700+ names and possibilities\, we are moving forward with the name “Washington State Summer Con” for next year and future years.”

We have limitations on numbers of attendees that we can legally have in the physical space so we have an attendee limit set. \nDo I need to bring my printed ticket to check-in?  \nYes and no\, we will be using a scanner to check attendees in and provide you with your swag bag of goodies. If you have your ticket whether printed or electronically we will be able to check you in faster. We’ll still be able to look you up and check you in\, but we’d much prefer you had the barcode! \nDroids\nCan I bring my droid?  \nUh\, yeah! That’s what this is all about. We’ve set aside an area to display droids so you can show off your creations and let others check out how you’ve made yours. \nWhat droids can I bring?  \nAny droids are acceptable. We started with astromechs but there are so many amazing droids out there we love to see all the variety. \nTable Space\nCan I bring my giant collection of stuff and take over a table(s)? \nSpace is becoming an issue with so many attending so we’re having to limit dedicated table space to accommodate our growth. Please review the ticket options if you need table space. No\, this doesn’t mean droids\, just the general parts display that inevitably show up. Yes\, this was a really hard decision\, and we’ll be discussing larger venues at this DroidCon. \nVendors\nCan I bring stuff to sell?  \nSure\, it’s totally acceptable to bring your droid related items to sell. All we ask is if you’re planning to sell to grab a premium ticket so you have a dedicated space to display your items. \nChildren\nCan I bring my children?  \nAbsolutely! There’s a ticket option for children under the age of 12 available. We love seeing the wonder on their faces\, the only thing we ask is that they are supervised at all times. \nSWAG\nIs there going to be some cool SWAG available?  \nWhy yes\, yes there will be. We’ve partnered with TeeSpring for a T-Shirt option\, that’s external from the event itself but we encourage you to pick one up if you like. Otherwise we’ve got patches\, lanyards\, and challenge coins lined up for attendees. \nAdditional Patch / Coin \nIf you would like an additional patch or coin with your order\, you can select it during the order process. There are additional hotels nearby should you prefer another location. \nYear of the GNK\nSo what is the Year of the GNK?  \nWe’re planning a GNK build-off challenge for builders to compete to create the most GNKalicious droid ever conceived. We’re recommending you get together a team of six master builders to work together in creating your masterpiece. We will be providing you a life-size shell for you to customize. Basically\, we’re providing the box\, legs\, and feet premade out of wood. \nWhat do you need to provide?  \nThe greeblies! Start planning with your team how you’d like to decorate it and gather your greeblies. SUMMARY:Atlanta Area Build Weekend
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis event will be hosted at two locations. We have a conference room at a local hotel as well as the use of a large shop space for the messy activities. \nFriday is check in day and meet at the hotel after 4 pm for a general get together and chat. \nSaturday starting at 9AM\, we will meet at the large shop.  If you are interested in purchasing and assembling either frames (CSL) or legs during the event\, you need to notify me in advance so I can have them precut and ready for assembly.  IF you’re interested in this\, then this is the time to do it since you only need to pay for the costs of materials and the CNC cutting is free.  Wood glue and various fasteners will be provided for assembly. \nThe shop is fairly large (30\,000 square feet) so there is plenty of room to do whatever. The shop primarily makes walk-in bathtubs so there is lots of fiberglass floating about. If you’re prone to itching just a heads up\, you may want a long sleeve shirt and putting a little bit of baby powder on exposed skin will mitigate it quite a bit. \nWhenever we retire from the shop on Saturday evening we can all head back to the… \nComfort Suites\n340 Parkway 575\nWoodstock\, GA 30188\n770-517-9650 \nWhere we have secured the conference room for our use. \nAt the hotel we’ll have setup several 3D printers for printing demonstrations. We’ll be discussing different design software used to create the parts as well. \nSoldering Sunday\, meet in the conference room at 9AM and we will be doing learn to solder workshops. If you need help soldering there will be people there to assist you in doing that. I will bring at least one soldering iron if not two as well as a reflow oven. \nIn addition we should have a bunch of little prizes to raffle away… \nIf you would like to bring stuff to trade\, sell\, or showoff\, there will be tables in the conference room for you to do just that. \nIf you are interested in giving a presentation or talking about a droid building subject\, please let me know and we can schedule any amount of time you need. \nIf you’re not local\, or maybe you are but would like to just stay overnight to be closer please book at the Comfort Suites. Just say your coming to the DroidBuilders Event / robot thing and they would get it. \nI will have more information to follow but I do hope some of you will be able to attend. \nPlease note\, work at the large shop is a dangerous place. While children are more than welcome they must be closely supervised to ensure their safety while we are at the shop.
