Description

Kenneth George Baker

August 24, 1934 – August 12, 2016

Kenny Baker was born in Birmingham, England and attended boarding school in Kent. Son of Ethel, a pianist and dress maker and Harold Baker, an artist musician, and draftsman.

Baker was selected by George Lucas to operate R2D2 in the feature film Star Wars. He initially had turned down the role that would define his career. He had recalled telling Lucas, “I don’t want to be stuck in a robot. What for, for goodness’ sake?” But he relented saying, “I’ll help you out, I’ll do you a favor.” For which we are all pretty thankful for.

Baker appeared as R2D2 in six of the Star Wars films, and also played an additional role in Return of the Jedi as Paploo, the Ewok who steals the Imperial speeder bike.

Obverse Face – A Celebration of Joy

The obverse face or otherwise known as the front/heads of a coin has been depicted with an image of Kenny Baker alongside one of his most memorable roles as R2-D2. Bordered by a delicate filigree this coin face has an intricate raised face to provide a complete tactile experience. We do hope you can enjoy this coin as much as we do.

Reverse Face – Remembering our Friend

The reverse face of this coin is a simple memorial to Kenny. Another homage to his most beloved role, this side depicts a top view of R2-D2 in raised portions and colored.

Charitable Giving

One of the key things we think is important is giving back to the community. We know many builders do it as well and all we can say is thank you! You’re helping make the world a better place. We want to do the same while honoring Kenny, so we are donating the proceeds from this coin run to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Kenny’s name.

Update: Builders do make a difference.  Due to the response for this run we were able to donate $1,167 to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.  Thank you so much for participating in this offering.
