More Than a Hobby. A Movement.
DroidBuilders is a worldwide community of individuals who share one obsession: bringing the droids of Star Wars to life with their own hands. From R2-D2 astromechs to BB-8 spheres to MSE mouse droids, our builders invest thousands of hours crafting fully functional replicas from scratch.
But the real mission goes deeper than the build. We take these droids out into the world — to hospitals, schools, libraries, and community events — because we’ve seen what happens when a child sees a real R2 unit roll into a room. That’s the work we’re here to do.

2014
DroidBuilders Founded
Incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit, uniting the R2-D2, BB-8, and MSE builder communities under one organization dedicated to STEM education and community service..
APRIL 2015
Star Wars Celebration Anaheim
DroidBuilders took on the responsibility of organizing and delivering a unique droid builder guest experience at Celebration Anaheim — establishing the model for how our community would show up at major events.
May 2016
Star Wars Celebration Orlando
Returning to Celebration with an expanded presence, DroidBuilders continued to craft a one-of-a-kind experience for builders and fans, showcasing the breadth and craftsmanship of our community.
March 2017
Star Wars Celebration Chicago
Another Celebration, another unforgettable builder experience. DroidBuilders organized and delivered programming that brought the craftsmanship and passion of our community to fans from around the world.
APRIL 2019
Star Wars Celebration Anaheim
DroidBuilders returned to Anaheim to once again lead the creation of a unique guest experience — connecting builders, fans, and the next generation of makers on the convention floor.

DroidCon 2023
DroidCon is a convention built by builders, for builders. Starting in 2023, DroidBuilders took the lead on driving the programming — creating a dedicated space for the community to learn, share, and build together.

DroidCon 2024
The second year of DroidBuilders-led DroidCon programming, deepening the event’s focus on hands-on building, technical workshops, and community connection.
June 2025
DroidCon 2025
DroidCon continues to grow as the premier gathering for serious droid builders — a place where beginner and veteran builders learn from each other in an environment built entirely around the craft.
